The brewers at Firestone Walker know that great things come in pairs… Batman and Robin. Wayne and Garth. Spaghetti and meatballs. And of course Milk & Cookies, which marries Nitro Merlin Milk Stout with cookies from Brown Butter Cookie Company.
Opened in 2008 by sisters Traci and Christa Hozie, the cookie company became a sensation on California’s Central Coast when locals couldn’t get enough of their signature Sea Salt Cookie. Hand-rolled and made with just six ingredients, it’s sweet and salty, with a rich, nutty flavor brought out by browning the butter.
As Firestone Walker prepared for the release of Nitro Merlin in 2016, a collaboration with Brown Butter Cookie Company seemed like a natural fit. “They have a great story and a great product that just happens to go perfectly with our milk stout,” said brewery co-founder David Walker. “It was a no-brainer.”
Nitro Merlin’s rich, creamy smoothness and subtle sweetness is a perfect match for the shortbread goodness of the Brown Butter Sea Salt Cookie, while the browned butter and hint of sea salt are tasty complements to the beer’s roasty notes. In the words of Brewmaster Matt Brynildson, “This is a pairing of local flavors that taste really awesome together.”
