5 to Try: International Beers

International Beer Day

Today is International Beer Day!  To celebrate, we’ve picked 5 great brews from around the world that are worth a try if you haven’ already.

Rodenbach Grand Cru (Belgium)

Flanders Red Ale – 6% ABV

Rodenbach is a legendary brewery known for a bunch of different beers, but one that stands the test of time is Grand Cru. This Flanders Red Ale is a classic example of an original sour ale. Grand Cru consists of 1/3 young beer and 2/3 beer that has been matured in oak barrels for two years. Within its rich, ruby depths you’ll discover hearty wine-like flavors that match up beautifully with strong-flavored foods, while your tongue rejoices in its refreshing effervescence and tart finish.

Singha Lager (Thailand)

Lager – 5% ABV

This beer might be unfamiliar to many, but Singha is a staple in Thailand. Brewed with the finest ingredients, this full-bodied lager contains notes of lemon, flowers and cinnamon. Its delicious, fruity spice aromas are well expressed on the palate, with a touch of sweetness, while crisp carbonation keeps things lively and fresh. This easy-drinking beer has a well-constructed flavor profile and a crisp mouthfeel. Try it with smokey barbeque, Thai food or Asian cuisine.

Boon Framboise (Belgium)

Fruit Lambic – 5.5% ABV

Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave lambic its name, Boon Framboise is a traditional Belgian lambic fruit-beer. It is brewed according to the traditional lambic style of spontaneous fermentation. Only fresh raspberries (25%) and wild cherries (5%) are used to make this refreshing libation — the missing link between beer and wine. For the best experience, serve chilled in flute glasses.

Unibroue La Fin Du Monde (Canada)

Belgian Tripel – 9% ABV

Widely considered one of the top Belgian Tripel’s in the world, this Canadian brewery put 18 months of research into the unique strain of yeast used to create the beer. Unibroue celebrates the great European explorers who discovered North America with this complex brew that offers a touch of sweetness and spice, highlighting dried fruit. Its complex flavor and natural carbonation make La Fin du Monde an ideal pairing for aged cheeses and succulent cuisine like scallops, filet mignon and duck.

Brewdog Punk IPA (Scotland)

IPA – 5.6% ABV

Scotland’s Brewdog has been rapidly growing over the past 11 years since the company’s inception. Punk IPA, their flagship brew, represents the brewery’s culture of quality beer with attitude.  Full of tropical fruit flavor, with a focus on grapefruit, pineapple and lychee, this is a very drinkable IPA.
