Back in 2016, Heavy Seas Beer teamed up with Jameson to create a beer aged in Jameson’s Caskmate whiskey barrels. The result was a 9% abv Caskmate barrel-aged version of Heavy Seas Loose Cannon IPA. The beer seems to have been popping up in very small quantities since 2017, but yesterday Heavy Seas announced on social media that the beer would be receiving a wide distribution release on October 4th, 2019.
With the tweet came label artwork for the beer, which gives the traditional Loose Cannon logo a makeover with green and beige Jameson colors. The label includes the following description for the beer:
Drawing inspiration from the classic beer and whiskey pairing the boilermaker, we aged our flagship beer, Loose Cannon, in Jameson Irish whiskey casks to create the boldest, most complex IPA we’ve ever brewed. Starting with all of the familiar Loose Cannon aromas and flavors, aging this beer in Jameson casks added healthy notes of vanilla, oak, and warming whiskey that transformed Loose Cannon into a completely new experience.
