We asked a handful of beer pros from around the country to recommend some of their favorites.

“Although they don’t brew it any longer, Firestone Walker Wookey Jack is the best of two worlds. I love the roasty, toastiness of dark beers, and when you couple that with the hoppiness of an IPA, it’s a match made in beer heaven. I really hope they bring it back.”

“Sierra Nevada Celebration. It’s a beer that celebrates harvest with fresh hops that transitions nicely into winter. I love this beer. Classic C hops, but still relevant and wonderful, with beautiful citrus, resin and pine. I’m happy when October rolls around and I start seeing this beer on tap. I drank several last Thanksgiving, bouncing back and forth between it and Stone Xocoveza.”

“I would have to say schwarzbier is the style I enjoy most in the fall. The main reason I don’t brew one is that I’m pretty busy at that time, brewing wet hop beers and pumpkin ales. Both are pretty time consuming for us because we grow and harvest all the fresh hops and pumpkins for both of these beers. I actually roast all of the pumpkins myself in our restaurant’s kitchen.
